How do I store my knits between seasons?Updated an hour ago
Before storing for an extended period:
- Have the garment dry cleaned. Clean storage is the single best defense against moths and odor.
- De-pill lightly. Smooth the surface so it goes into storage in good shape.
- Confirm it's completely dry. Any residual moisture invites mildew.
- Fold, don't hang. Hangers create shoulder distortion in fine knitwear.
- Use breathable storage. A cotton or canvas bag is ideal. Add cedar blocks or a lavender sachet — both are natural moth deterrents.
- Avoid long-term airtight plastic. If you must use vacuum bags, include a desiccant and open them periodically to let the knit air.
Store in a cool, dry space — never a damp basement or a hot attic.
